Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye is attracting interest from fellow Premier League side Arsenal, report The Sun.

The Senegal international has been in superb form for the Toffees since joining from Aston Villa last summer and is said to have also caught the eye of clubs in Spain and Italy.

Manager Ronald Koeman will not want to sell such a key player, but Gueye may be tempted by an offer of Champions League football.

The 27-year-old was statistically excellent throughout his first season in England, with his tally of 141 interceptions during 2015-16 bettered only by Leicester City’s N’Golo Kante, according to the Premier League’s official website.

However, whilst his French counterpart received widespread acclaim in the Foxes’ title winning side, Gueye went under the radar as Villa were relegated with a meagre tally of just 17 points.

Kante joined Chelsea last summer for a fee of around £30 million, whilst Everton swooped to activate the former Lille star’s £7 million release clause, a deal which now looks like a bargain.

Arsenal, meanwhile, paid in excess of £30 million for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Granit Xhaka but the Swiss has failed to live up to his price tag, his most notable contributions being two red cards in the Premier League.

The Gunners require more bite in a midfield that has looked lightweight for a number of years and Gueye may be just the man they need in the centre of the park.
