Everton are preparing a summer battle for highly sought-after Las Palmas defender Mauricio Lemos, according to Spanish news outlet Canarias7.

The 21-year-old has received high praise after an impressive season at the Canary Island club, which has seen the former Uruguay under-20 international net four times in 17 appearances.

The hot prospect joined the 12th placed La Liga side from Russian outfit Rubin Kazan on loan in January 2016, before making the deal permanent at the end of last season for Ł1.7 million on a five-year contract.

The Toffees will have competition for the signature of Lemos however, with European giants Barcelona also keen on securing the talented youngster’s services.

The Catalonians reportedly enquired into the availability of the Uruguayan following his switch to the Yellows, but were told they would have to match the centre-back’s Ł26 million release clause to prize him away from the Estadio Gran Canaria.

Manchester United have also shown interest in the 21-year-old, with boss Jose Mourinho likely to add to his defensive ranks again this summer.
