Everton have been linked with a possible move for Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, in the Guardian’s transfer rumour mill.
The Toffees have tried to be ambitious in the summer transfer market, with a number of exciting additions arriving at Goodison Park.
That said, an Everton move for Rakitic seems slightly far fetched given the player’s calibre and importance for Barcelona.
The Croatian has been a key player for the Blaugrana in recent seasons and is widely acknowledged as a world-class midfielder.
However, the potential for Everton to pull off an incredible deal could be increased given Frenkie De Jong has been signed by Barcelona.
In the heart of the Toffees midfield, Marco Silva’s men have landed both Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph his summer, while Jean-Philippe Gbamin has also been added to the Merseyside outfit’s squad in recent days.
Despite the fact that Idrisa Gueye has been sold by Everton, it would be a surprise for the Goodison Park outfit to sign another central midfielder.
That said, the Toffees have done a lot of business with Barcelona in recent years, with the likes of Gerard Deulofeu, Gomes, Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina all ending up at Goodison.
