Everton continued their strong start to the new Premier League season with a dominant 3-0 win over Sunderland on Monday night at the Stadium of Light.

A dominant second-half performance by the Merseysiders saw Romelu Lukaku net a quick-fire hat-trick and ensure the Toffees now have ten points from their first four games.

An interesting subplot to the Premier League clash saw ex-Everton manager David Moyes face his former club, while the presence of Lamine Kone in the home starting XI was also fitting.

Ronald Koeman’s men reportedly made a number of attempts to sign the Ivory Coast international over the course of the summer transfer window, but the Wearsiders fought to keep the African battler in the North East.

Kone struggled to contain the impressive Lukaku in the game and the fixture gave the visiting support a chance to assess their summer transfer target.

With Everton landing Ashley Williams for a fee less than that touted for the Sunderland man, most of the Toffees fans on Twitter were glad that their side missed out on the Ivorian.
