Everton fans are split about the possibility of a return for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney after the striker was recently linked with a move away from Old Trafford.
The Daily Mail has claimed the England captain has accepted his future at the club is coming to an end and that has rifled speculation he could be making a sensational comeback to the toffees.
It is reported that Rooney may be heading to China in a move worth £35 million; however Goodison Park chiefs are also interested in signing the 31-year-old.
United boss Jose Mourinho has refused to clarify the future of a player who has won everything during his 13-year Old Trafford career, including recently surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton’s scoring record for both club and country.
Everton fans took to Twitter to argue whether Rooney would be the right fit for Ronald Koeman’s team in this stage of his career.
Some supporters are adamant that the striker is too old to be any benefit to their club and have also questioned his inability to turn down the mega money offered from China.
However, others believe Rooney still has a lot to offer the club and Everton would be making a huge mistake in not signing the goalscorer.

Evertonians asking what Rooney can offer Everton. Unbelievable. He's a fan and more importantly a winner. That's the mentality we need #efc

Would be a huge coup for Everton to sign Rooney even at 31. Certainly would benefit the squad and he's still a huge global name/brand. #EFC

Really looks like Rooney will be back at #EFC this summer. The sooner blues get their head around it and look at the positives the better.

Not sure I'd even have Rooney back if I'm honest

Having Rooney back at Everton would be like going out to buy a Mercedes then realising you cant drive it as it has no engine.#NoThankYou

Don't think Rooney will go China. He's not that type. Come home to Everton, Wayne.
