Everton announced the signing of Barcelona left-back Lucas Digne on Wednesday afternoon, as Marco Silva strengthened his defence ahead of the start of the Premier League campaign.
The 25-year-old will be part of the Toffees’ squad until June 2023 at least, after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal.
Digne found game-time hard to come by while at the Nou Camp, featuring in just 29 La Liga games since 2016.

He does have a Spanish title to his name though, along with a Ligue 1 title that he picked up at Paris Saint-Germain during his three-year spell in France.
The defender brings an attacking impetus to Everton’s back line, something that has been lacking in the absence of injured Leighton Baines for most of last season.
Digne’s pace causes problems for opponents, however an inability to force his way ahead of Jordi Alba in the Barca pecking order has seen him look for regular football at Goodison Park, which in turn could see the end of Baines at the club.
Evertonians have taken to social media to show their delight at the signing of the French international, who was on standby for his nation’s World Cup triumph in Russia earlier in the summer.
While the majority are happy to welcome the left-back to Finch Farm, some supporters have also voiced their concern at a lack of further signings.
Here is a selection of reactions on Twitter from Everton fans:
