Everton saw their side go down to another defeat when they were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon and one man turned out to be the scapegoat when their supporters reacted to the loss on social media.
The Toffees actually begun the match well and had numerous chances to take the lead in the first half with a combination of poor decision making, some ordinary finishing and a strong showing from Gunners keeper Petr Cech all uniting to keep the Merseyside outfit at bay.
Marco Silva will have feared at half time that his side would be punished for not capitalising on their opportunities and his concerns came true in the second half when a peach of a strike from Alexandre Lacazette and a controversial second from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang condemned Everton to another defeat.
One man who was responsible for making some questionable decisions in the final third was young forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Silva preferred the England under-20 World Cup winner to Cenk Tosun through the middle as he hoped the pace of the attacker would trouble Arsenal.
The Portuguese boss did not really get the return he was looking for however with Calvert-Lewin struggling more in his central position having moved from the left side due to the return from suspension of big money summer signing Richarlison.
It could all have been so different very early on had the youngster looked up when in good shape and rolled in the Brazil international who would have had the simple task of tapping in to put Everton ahead.
He failed to do that though and lost the ball which was symbolic of a below par performance from the youngster, one which few Toffees fans were willing to tolerate after the match.
A number of them took to social media after the final whistle to release their frustrations with the former Sheffield United ace with many suggesting he is not good enough to be starting currently.
Here are the pick of their messages:
Can’t see ya ever winning a match with DCL and Davies on the same pitch #efc

Still trying to work out what DCL does? Anyone? #efc

Kenny and DCL not yet good enough at this level. Sigurdsson totally anonymous, again. We can’t afford a number 10 who offers so little. #efc

DCL not good enough unfortunately. Don’t think 2-0 reflects the game but regardless we have to be better at finishing. #EFC

Davies and DCL are not good enough #EFC

Decent performance from #EFC IMO. Striker away from winning that. Better team for 65 mins. Today proved DCL isn't anything other than an option off the bench. Tosun starts that and I think we win that. Fulham is a big one next week now!

Another game we should of got more from. The officiating in this league is shocking and needs to be looked at by @FA . Decisions by the manager cost us today also. DCL has some potential but hes not good enough to lead the line for a team apparently striving for excellence #EFC

We need a top striker, DCL is not premier level yet needs a year loan in the championship. Still hope for Tosun but not a 20 goal a season scorer. Davies played well and we look better with Keane and Zouma apart from the mistake for the 2nd goal. A lot better then last week #EFC

That DCL miss early on is very worrying. Not clean, balanced or composed. Didn’t even get a shot off. Likely he will be a solid center forward for a premier league club but not for a team looking to break into the top 6. Still early in his professional career however #efc
