Everton’s woes continued on Thursday evening as they were dumped out of the Europa League Group Stage with a 3-0 defeat to Olympique de Lyonnais, leaving fans to criticise one of their players on social media.

David Unsworth side had managed to get to the half-time whistle level, however, things went downhill for the Toffees in the second half.

The Ligue 1 side found the opener through Bertrand Traore, who had also scored in the fixture played at Goodison Park two weeks ago, rolling in the ball past Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the 68th minute.

Houssem Aouar, who came on as a second-half substitute, added a second eight minutes later before Morgan Schneiderlin saw red.

The midfielder picked up two yellow cards for reckless challenges and Everton’s misery was further added to when former Manchester United attacker Memphis Depay added a third just before the final whistle.

Unsworth has found it difficult to steer the sinking ship the Merseyside outfit find themselves in at the moment, having lost all three of their matches he has been in charge of so far since Ronald Koeman was sacked.

Everton fans have been lamenting their side for a while on social media, with many criticising the majority of their squad, especially with the amount of money spent in the summer on major signings who were expected to make them challenge for a Champions League spot.

One of the players who has been a main target of such criticism is Gylfi Sigurdsson, who has failed to live up to the expectations held for him following his arrival from Swansea City.

The Icelandic international, who signed for an Everton club-record £45million, made it difficult viewing for fans as they were not happy with the way he performed throughout the match.
