Premier League pair Everton and West Ham United are looking to sign Roma midfielder Maxime Gonalons on loan, according to French publication L’Equipe.
The Serie A man spent last season out with Sevilla, but having failed to really impress over in Spain, it would appear that the Italians are looking for him to go out and play his football elsewhere once again, with England a likely destination.
Marco Silva is working hard to improve the options and the numbers in his Everton midfield. He is still actively trying to secure a permanent move for Andre Gomes and has shown an interest in Gonalons too, a man who would provide competition to all the central midfielders already at Goodison Park.
The centre of the pitch has been an issue for West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini as well. He had a huge number of injuries to deal with last term and is looking to bolster his personnel in a key position within his set up.
The Hammers’ manager has Declan Rice for whom he can build his side around, but he is looking for some creative sparks to take their attacking game onto a whole new level, and it appears the 30-year-old is someone who fits that requirement.
Gonalons was thought of as a huge talent during his time with Lyon, the club in which he started his career. He represented France at under-19 and under-21 levels and went on to make eight appearances for the senior team, but a move to Rome has seen his career stall and he is desperately in need of the right club to bring his best credentials out again.
Both Everton and West Ham have managers who like to play with the ball, which the Frenchman should enjoy, so the two clubs could be set to battle it out for his services.
