Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal to send misfiring midfielder Moussa Sissoko to Trabzonspor on a season-long loan basis, according to Turkish newspaper Fanatik.
The France international signed for the North London side last summer in a big-money move but struggled for regular time on the pitch for a high-flying Spurs side.
Sissoko did not make a favourable impression on the Tottenham fans when he was given a chance to play, with many of the supporters calling for last season’s Premier League runners-up to cut their losses on the former Newcastle United man.
The latest report from Turkey suggests that Trabzonspor are looking to be expansive in the transfer market this summer, that they already have sat down with Spurs representatives and have a deal in place to sign the midfielder on loan.
Sissoko was included in the starting XI for Tottenham’s 2-0 friendly win over Juventus at Wembley on Saturday, but it remains to be seen just how much football he will receive under Mauricio Pochettino if he stays in North London.
With the World Cup to take place in Russia at the end of the new season, the France international will want to play regularly in 2017-18 to force his way into the Les Bleus national reckoning for the tournament.
Tottenham have the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min and Erik Lamela ahead of him in the pecking order, with Sissoko most-commonly used as a Plan B from the bench.
The Frenchman’s versatility is one asset that Pochettino may well make use of if he stays at Spurs, with the London side set to play in four different competitions in the new campaign.
However, with a lack of new faces arriving at Tottenham this summer so far, the ambitious club will surely only allow Sissoko to leave if a worthy replacement can be found.
