Aston Villa were busy in the transfer market this summer, bringing a raft of new players to Villa Park, but one man they missed out on is Pione Sisto, according to Marca.
The Villans were active right from the moment they won promotion back to the Premier League, on that famous May afternoon at Wembley Stadium, spending well over £100 million as they looked to build a squad which will keep them among the elite.
Villa appeared to get hold of everyone they had an interest in, but that appears not to be the case, if the report in the Spanish press is to be believed.
That is because it has been suggested that the Villans were not able to sign Celta Vigo star Sisto, even though they offered him a significant rise on his current wages.
It appears that Villa made a bid for the Denmark international, which was accepted by the Spanish side, but they could not tempt the winger to Villa Park, despite an offer that would have seen him financially rewarded.
The Villans signed two wingers in the transfer window in the form of Trezeguet and Anwar El Ghazi, so Sisto was not someone they had a desperate need for, but he was clearly someone that boss Dean Smith had identified as a player who could make a difference in his squad.
He will have to do without him until at least January though, not just to the disappointment of Villa, but also Celta Vigo themselves, who accepted the bid for their man in an attempt to get him off their wage bill.
With the English transfer window now closed, the only way the La Liga side can sell the 24-year-old anytime soon, will be to a European side, which severely reduces the options available to them.
