Roma have reportedly informed Tottenham Hotspur that they should forget about signing Nicolo Zaniolo, according to a report published by The Sun.
The report mentions that Roma chief Gianluca Petrachi has ruled out the gifted midfielder leaving the Italian capital this summer.
“I take this opportunity to say that when I appreciated Zaniolo with all the affection of this world to return to the tracks if he had left, it was immediately said that Petrachi put Zaniolo up for sale,” he said.
“This is not true.
“I have to work to try to get the best out of Zaniolo. I am also a very practical person, I have direct contact with my players.
“I never put Zaniolo up for sale, nor did I say it was on the market. The market is full of pitfalls, but today Zaniolo is not on the market.”
Tottenham have been linked with plenty of new players this summer and Zaniolo is an exciting potential addition.
The Italian is one of the most highly rated prospects in the Serie A. He went on to make 27 league appearances last season and impressed, scored four goals.
His displays also saw him break into the Italian national team and he was named as the best young player in the Serie A.
Zaniolo has shown signs that he is a future star in the making and if he continues to develop at the rate that he is doing, his value could double by next summer.
Hence, now will be the right time to swoop for him for Tottenham.
However, while Zaniolo would be a good addition, the North Londoners already have Heung Son Min, Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela and Jack Clarke in their squad which means that they do not really need to add new wingers to their side.
Tottenham should rather invest in bringing in a new right-back. Serge Aurier and Kieran Trippier failed to impress for Spurs during the past season.
