Tottenham Hotspur laboured to a 1-1 draw with bottom of the table Watford on Saturday afternoon, but their fans still found a positive from the contest afterwards.
There is a lot of scrutiny on Spurs at the present time, but supporters would have expected three points at home against the worst side in the Premier League to date this term.
That was not the case however, and in the end Tottenham were slightly fortunate to get a point, equalising late on after the visitors had what looked a strong penalty appeal turned down when they were leading 1-0.
Spurs were slow out of the gates, disappointingly so when many were looking at them to show a positive performance after a tough time of it prior to the international break, and were behind inside 10 minutes when Abdoulaye Doucoure fired the Hornets in front.
That left Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino having to do something to get his side back in the game, and he introduced Son-Heung Min and Erik Lamela in the second-half, with the moves eventually having the desired effect.
With time ticking down on Spurs’ hopes of getting something from the match, Dele Alli chose the ideal moment to score his first goal since January, to level things up and rescue a point for the home side.
Tottenham fans were far from happy with what they saw from their side, and were quite critical of the overall performance, but they were able to find a positive from the contest, on what was a disappointing day given their expectations going into it.
That came in the form of Alli, a man still popular with Spurs supporters, despite them not seeing his best football for a while.
Many Tottenham fans who reacted on social media after the final whistle were pleased with his contribution, and hope his goal sets up a sustained run of his best stuff.
Here are some of their messages:
Shocking result but I guess at least we didn’t lose and battled until the end and good to see Dele back scoring goals! Can’t take many more weekends like this though Spurs, so far off the pace and still so many players performing under par! #THFC— Daniel Barker (@danielbarker7) October 19, 2019
Find a couple positives from this game:— Nick Donovan (@NickSpurs1882) October 19, 2019
1. Dele edging back to form 💪
2. Davies or Sess need to play. Rose was atrocious 👎
3. Won’t be overconfident on Tuesday 🤔
4. Poch fast & flexible on subs⚡️
5. Aurier didn’t get carded & put in decent crosses 😱#THFC #COYS #TOTWAT
I’m feeling positive after that 2nd half, when confidence is low those little moments just don’t happen for you. @dele_official was a great example of that, some almost genius moments that’ll go his way in time. #COYS #THFC— Peter Smith (@Smoodger) October 19, 2019
First good game Dele has had in a long time. Good to see. My only positive #THFC— Danguy (@DanVertonghen) October 19, 2019
