Liverpool qualified for the Champions League semi-finals for the second season in succession on Wednesday evening, when they went to Portugal and saw off FC Porto 4-1 on the night and 6-1 on aggregate, and after the match their fans raved out a key man on social media.

The Reds had already build up a solid looking 2-0 advantage in the first leg, and there never truly appeared to be any danger that they would throw that away, as they set about securing a last four clash with Barcelona later this month.

That will be a contest to make the mouth water, but this was a professional performance from Liverpool, who were effectively into the semi-final from the minute Sadio Mane opened the scoring in Portugal.

There was to be no way back for the Portuguese outfit from that point on but just to make completely sure, Mo Salah added a second, as the Reds sought about routing their opposition.

To their credit, Porto pulled a goal back, but that only fired Liverpool back into action as late goals from Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk added gloss to a thoroughly comprehensive scoreline in favour of the Reds.

There were a number of wonderful performances for Liverpool on the night, at both ends of the pitch, but there was only really one man the Anfield faithful wanted to discuss when they took to social media after the final whistle had blown in Portugal.

That was attacking star Mane, who opened the scoring via a perfectly timed run in the first half, and then who continued to be a thorn in the side of the Portuguese outfit throughout the evening.

The Senegal international has been in wonderful form for the Reds in recent times, and that was not lost on their supporters, who commented on what many described as the man of the match performance in the contest.
