Derby County will look to book a spot in the Championship play-off final, when they head to Elland Road looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit in the second leg of their semi-final against Leeds United on Wednesday evening, and they are hopeful of having two key men available, according to their official website.
The Rams finished the regular season like a train to snatch the final spot in the end of season lottery, but they failed to capitalise on home advantage in the first leg, and have it all to do against Marcelo Bielsa’s men in Yorkshire.
Luck wasn’t with Frank Lampard’s Derby side on Saturday when some questionable decisions went against them, but they need to forget all of that and give it everything they have got, as they bid to book a showdown with Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium later in the month.
The Rams have been very good in cup competitions this term, and will be looking to draw on their famous win at Old Trafford from earlier in the season.
To assist them with their quest of overturning Leeds’ advantage, Derby are hoping that Martyn Waghorn and Ashley Cole will be available to play, after injury ruled them out of the first leg.
Although both remain extremely doubtful to feature for the Rams, Lampard has not ruled them out completely and will give them as long as possible to prove their fitness, such is the importance of the two men on the side.
Derby have taken on Leeds three times this season, including the first leg at Pride Park, and they have been beaten every time. That is something that is going to have to change if the Derbyshire outfit are to walk out at Wembley.
There is no love lost between these two teams after plenty of controversy throughout the campaign, so Lampard will love for his Rams’ side to end Leeds’ chances of a return to the Premier League.
