Former Aston Villa star Darren Bent has claimed that the Villans will sign another winger to give Jota strong competition for a place in the team, as reported by Football Insider.
Villa have so far been impressive in the transfer market as they look to build a side that can avoid relegation from the Premier League next season.
They have so far made a wealth of signings included Kortney Hause, Jota, Bjorn Engels, Anwar El Ghazi and Wesley Horaes.
Jota was one of Dean Smith’s first signings of the summer, arriving from Birmingham City for a fee of around £4.05 million.
The Spaniard is expected to serve as one of Villa’s first-choice wingers next season.
However, the Midlands club may look to sign one more winger to strengthen the competition for a place in the side. As things stand, El Ghazi is the only other senior winger in the team.
The 28-year-old Villa man Jota established himself as a quality player in the Championship and was one of Birmingham’s few bright sparks. He went on to make 75 appearances for the Blues with 41 of them coming last season.
He has also previously worked under Smith at Brentford which will give Villa fans hope that the player will be a success with their club – with Bent saying he is in the driving sseat for a starting berth.
“I’m sure Aston Villa will strengthen in that area and for now he’s got the jersey,” he told Football Insider.
“I’ve tried to tell people before, you cannot underestimate the importance of a manager, if he buys you and you’re his player, there’s nothing better than that.”
Jota enjoyed the best spell of his career under Smith with The Bees as he went on to score 12 goals which is more than he has scored under any other manager.
Villa have lots of work to do ahead of the new season but fans can be encouraged by what has transpired so far.
