Football pundit Danny Mills believes that Leeds United are one of the best teams in the Championship and could well be in line to win promotion to the Premier League for the first time since 2004.
“I’ve said all along, if you finish above Leeds, I think you get automatic promotion. Realistically I can’t see them finishing much further down than third. I think they are one of the best teams in the Championship,” Mills told talkSPORT.
“I think they play some of the best football & defensively they’ve been absolutely superb. They have not quite been clinical enough at times in front of goal, but they are still there are thereabout, and I think the experience of last season will drive them on.”
After 16 games, Leeds find themselves in third place on the Championship standings with 31 points.
The Whites are behind second-place Preston North End on goal difference and behind log leaders West Bromwich Albion by just two points.
After suffering heartbreak during the promotion playoffs last season, there is no doubt that Marcelo Bielsa’s side will be aiming for nothing less than a top two finish this season.
Leeds certainly have enough talent in their squad to go all the way this season and perhaps even win the Championship title.
They have conceded just nine goals this season which is the least thus far by any side in the second-tier. Their defence is perhaps the best in the second-tier.
A major source of concern for Bielsa’s side though is their attack. They have so far scored just 21 goals- two shy of struggling Luton Town.
Patrick Bamford is failing to score goals on a regular basis since being installed as the club’s first-choice number nine following the departure of Kemar Roofe last summer.
Eddie Nketiah has shown strong promise but it remains to be seen whether the 20-year-old can really score goals on a regular basis for the Yorkshire club.
It would not be a bad idea for Leeds to look into recruiting a new number nine in January.
