Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed that defender Mamadou Sakho will miss his side’s trip to West Ham United on Saturday evening.
The Eagles head across London looking to continue their bright start to the season, when they come up against a Hammers outfit who are delivering on their pre-season potential.
Palace go into the contest off the back of a fine win over Norwich City last weekend, a victory which gave them 11 points from their seven matches so far this term.
In those matches however, the Eagles have only found six goals, so if they are to go on and enjoy a much more stress-free campaign, they need to work out a way to get the ball into the back of the net more often.
They will hope that can begin at the London Stadium on Saturday evening, where Palace will look to use their pace in attacking areas to their advantage, but who will go into the match without a key defender.
Sakho has been missing for a while for the Eagles, and Hodgson confirmed ahead of the clash that he will be unavailable to face the Hammers, when questioned about who is missing from his squad for the contest.
“Only Mamadou. He is the only player from the senior squad who is unavailable.” The Palace official website quote him has saying.
“But he is making great strides, so I am rather hoping that after this international break that follows our game on Saturday that he will arguably be back in contention as well. But I cannot say that for certain. It is not an injury that is projected to keep him out for a longer period of time.”
The Eagles boss will also be without his captain Luca Milivojevic against the Hammers, as the midfielder picked up his fifth booking of the season against Norwich last week, and is therefore suspended on Saturday.
