Scottish champions Celtic won their Europa League group with a match to spare on Thursday evening, when they overcame Rennes 3-1 at Celtic Park, and after the contest their fans took to social media to big up an unlikely hero.

The Bhoys went into the clash with the Ligue 1 outfit knowing that if they won the game, and rivals Cluj lost to Lazio, they would guarantee finishing top of their section with another outing to come, and that was exactly how it played out.

There were concerns over whether Celtic could pick up the victory, although they knew they were already into the knockout stage of the secondary competition, regardless of the result against Rennes.

That is because the Bhoys were forced to do without talisman Odsonne Edouard, who missed the game with what boss Neil Lennon described as a niggle, utilising Lewis Morgan in his place instead.

That proved to be a masterstroke of a decision, as it was the Celtic winger who opened the scoring in his makeshift position, and from there the Glasgow giants took control of the game, as they powered towards winning the group in style.

That was near enough confirmed on the stroke of half time, when Ryan Christie capped off a decent 45 minutes of football with the second goal for the Bhoys, and then deep into the second half Mikey Johnston wrapped up the win.

Rennes did get the last blow with a consolation on the night, but Celtic had more than done their job by then, with Morgan excellent throughout the contest.

Bhoys fans may not have expected the quality of performance they got from the man who has been on loan at St Mirren and Sunderland in recent seasons.

Many of those Celtic fans went onto Twitter after the final whistle, to give their impressions on a wonderful display from the Scot.
