Everton announced a major addition to their squad on Tuesday when they secured the signing of England international Fabian Delph from Manchester City for £8 million, and their supporters have been reacting to the news on social media since then.

The Toffees are aiming to break into the top six in the Premier League this term, but in order to do that significant improvements were needed to be made to their personnel, both for extra depth and also the added quality required to take them to the next level.

It has been a relatively quiet summer in terms of additions at Goodison Park, with Everton boss Marco Silva previously only managing to bring in Jonas Lossl from Huddersfield Town, as well as securing a permanent deal for Andre Gomes.

That makes the signing of Delph fairly significant, not just because as a 29-year-old he still has plenty left to offer up at Premier League level, but he could also be a key purchase for the Toffees given that he can play in a number of positions too.

The Leeds United academy product generally operates in the centre of the midfield, where he played for England in the UEFA Nations League finals just last month, but he can fill in at left-back too, and was often employed there in his time at Manchester City.

To sign a player of Delph’s calibre for as little as £8 million looks a fantastic piece of business, and Everton fans reacting to the addition on social media were understandably delighted with the work done by Silva and director of football Daniel Brands in getting that over the line.

Many of those supporters were quick to acknowledge just how good a signing the England man is, and how much they are looking forward to seeing him in action in the upcoming campaign.
