Only a Premier League point separates eighth-placed Southampton and West Bromwich Albion in the position below them as the Saints and Baggies meet on Saturday on the south coast.

Both sides have shown this season that on their day they can go toe-to-toe with just about anyone in the division and three invaluable points are on the line as a result.

Southampton are in the middle of a gruelling fixture list of three games in six days, with Claude Puel’s men coming off the back of a disappointing 4-1 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.

As such, the French manager has rung the changes for the Baggies’ visit, resting a host of players including Jose Fonte, Ryan Bertrand and Jay Rodriguez.

West Brom’s success this season has been based around a solid back line, which remains the same for the trip to the St Mary’s Stadium.

However, Tony Pulis has opted to rest key striker Salomon Rondon for the trip south, instead giving Welsh attacker Hal Robson-Kanu a rare Premier League outing.

Here are how the sides line up today.

Southampton (4-3-3) Forster; McQueen, Yoshida, Van Dijk, Martina; Romeu, Hojbjerg, Davis; Tadic, Long, Boufal

West Brom (4-2-3-1) Foster; Dawson, McAuley, Evans, Nyom; Yacob, Fletcher; Phillips, Brunt, Chadli; Robson-Kanu
