Manchester United suffered their first domestic defeat under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, when they went down 2-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, and after the match their fans reacted to a key incident in the contest.

The Red Devils were expected to be full of spirit and endeavour after their amazing turnaround against Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League in midweek, but it never really played out that way as they were comfortably beaten.

In truth, United were not at the races at the beginning of the match, and they paid a huge price for their sluggish start, although they will have headed up the M6 knowing that despite not being anywhere near their best, they had more than enough chances to have got something from the contest.

Having not come out of the traps particularly quickly, the last thing the Red Devils needed was an extremely rare mistake from goalkeeper David de Gea. He was wrongfooted by the swerve on a Granit Xhaka strike 12 minutes into the clash and that was to prove a key moment.

To be fair to Solskjaer’s men, they rallied well as the first half went on, hitting the woodwork twice and missing a couple of other good openings, but they were finally put to bed in the second period when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang converted from the penalty spot.

De Gea has been the star man for Manchester United for as long as anyone can remember, so he has earned plenty of credit when it comes to making mistakes, as they are extremely few and far between.

Nobody could argue that the Red Devils star did not drop a clanger with the opening goal of the game, but their fans recognise the amount of times their stopper has bailed them out of trouble in his career, and most are willing to be sympathetic towards the Spaniard rather than blame him.
