Chelsea will not sell young defender Andreas Christensen and plan to use him in their first team in the future, according to The Daily Mail.

The Blues snapped the Danish defender up from the Brondby youth ranks but have not afforded him playing time at Stamford Bridge over recent years.

A loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach was a major success last season and Christensen has returned to the Bundesliga side this season, excelling in Germany and in the Champions League.

Rumblings in the British press at the weekend suggested that Barcelona had identified the Scandinavian enforcer as a potential £20 million signing next summer.

However, the latest report suggests that Chelsea will not sanction Christensen’s exit from West London and have plans to incorporate him into Antonio Conte’s first-team squad for the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.

The Italian trainer has recently switched to a three-man central defensive system and as such an extra player in this position next season would be a boost to the London club.
