Chelsea are set to be without Alvaro Morata for the early evening visit of Newcastle United to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, due to a minor hamstring problem, BBC Sport report.
The 26-year-old Spaniard had to sit out their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the League Cup semi final at Wembley on Tuesday.
Morata has struggled to hit top form following his move to Chelsea from Real Madrid 18 months ago, and so far this season has scored in the Premier League just five times in 16 appearances.
Chelsea are thought to be seeking more firepower in the January transfer window, with rumoured interest in Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson, as per Sky Sports.
Although the Cherries manager Eddie Howe has ruled out any deal, stating that Wilson is not for sale.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek will also miss the game for the Blues with a ongoing back issue, while Cesc Fabregas has left the club to join French side Monaco.
Chelsea will be looking to extend what has been a good record against Newcastle, as they have claimed victory the last six times they have hosted the Magpies in all competitions.
In the reverse fixture this season, they won 2-1 at St James’ Park, with goals from an Eden Hazard penalty and an own goal from Yedlin.
Chelsea’s recent home form has been sketchy recently, despite winning four out their last six Premier League games.
The Blues have taken just one point from their last two games at Stamford Bridge; not since when Glenn Hoddle was manager have Chelsea not managed to find the net at home in three consecutive league matches, which was back in November 1993.
However, the 1-0 defeat by Leicester City before Christmas is Chelsea’s only Premier League home defeat of the season so far.
And only Liverpool have conceded fewer goals on home territory, just three so far compared to the eight that Chelsea have shipped at the Bridge.
Rafael Benitez will be making a return to his old club where has was the Chelsea interim manager in the 2012/13 season, and won the Europa League.
On loan winger Kenedy will be ineligible to play in the game as he cannot face his parent club.
