Chelsea made a last-ditch attempt to sign Inter Milan’s Antonio Candreva, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Blues offered £25.75 million for the Italian midfielder but the Nerazzuri rejected the offer classing the 29-year-old as unsellable, according to the report.
Candreva was targeted by Chelsea in the summer but he left Lazio for Inter instead. Blues boss Antonio Conte will certainly keep an eye on the midfielder and is reported to be ready to make a fresh offer in the summer.
The 29-year-old started Italy’s opening two games in Euro 2016 before picking up an injury and missing the rest of the tournament. The international side were managed by Conte at the competition in France.
Candreva would most likely fit in at the right wing-back position for the west-London club but he could also play as a second striker. The Italian’s best attribute is his versatility.
In the January window Chelsea sold Brazilian midfielder Oscar to Chinese club Shanghai SIPG for a reported fee of £60million.
However the west-London didn’t bring in any reinforcements during this period.
Chelsea are currently top of the Premier League, nine points clear of Tottenham Hotspur, and welcome third-place Arsenal to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
On Tuesday evening the Blues drew 1-1 away at Liverpool and were they to beat their north-London rivals at the weekend it would be tough to look past them for the title.
