Scottish champions Celtic are lining up a summer move for Steaua Bucharest midfielder Ovidiu Popescu, according to the Daily Record.
The Hoops sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old in action over the weekend, as Steaua overcame arch-rivals Dinamo Bucharest in a 2-1 victory, and could activate the £8 million release clause in the player’s contract.

Since joining the 26-times Romanian champions last June in a £200,000 deal from Poli Timisoara, Popescu has developed into one of the country’s most exciting talents.
Steaua owner George Becali, who claims that the midfielder will one day be worth up to £25 million, is waiting for Celtic to make a concrete offer and claims to have already received a bid for the Romania under-21 international from an unnamed club.
Popescu has forged quite a reputation for himself in his homeland, with his style of play likened to that of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.
He has three goals this season and featured in Steaua’s Champions League qualifying defeat to Manchester City back in August, which the Romanians lost 6-0 on aggregate.
Celtic, meanwhile, have already wrapped up the Scottish Premiership and are aiming to complete an entire domestic campaign unbeaten.
