Fraser Forster has rejoined Glasgow Celtic on loan from Southampton, the Scottish champions have confirmed on their official website.
The experienced shot-stopper has been deemed surplus to requirements at St Mary’s and is now below Angus Gunn and Alex McCarthy in the club’s pecking order.
Forster’s deal with Celtic is set to run until the end of the season though there will be an option to sign him on a permanent basis at the end of the season.
The 31-year-old will provide Craig Gordon and Scott Bain for the number one jersey at the Hoops.
Bain is currently out of Celtic action after having dislocated his thumb while Gordon is injury prone and now also 36-years-old so it is imperative that Neil Lennon has another good goalkeeping option in his side.
Forster previously spent time at Celtic on a two-year loan deal.
During that time, he won three Scottish top-flight titles as well as two Scottish Cups. Despite the Hoops having struggled to make much of an impact in the Champions League during the past decade, Forster was also one of their few players who held their own in Europe’s premier club competition.
Forster’s strong performances for Celtic previously led to him being called-up to the England team and he was part of the Three Lions 2014 World Cup squad, acting as cover for Joe Hart.
He left the club during the summer of 2014 which came just after Lennon left the club after his first stint. It remains to be seen whether he can emulate his previous success.
