Celtic had a horror show in their opening match of this season’s Champions League, as they were comprehensively beaten by Paris Saint-Germain 5-0 at Parkhead.

Brendan Rodgers side were not at the races and were handed their biggest-ever defeat in European competition by the French giants.

Neymar, who had rocked the boat throughout the whole match, had opened the scoring in the early stages of the first-half, before the other big money signing of the summer – Kylian Mbappe – doubled the lead 15 minutes later.

The goals had not finished in the first 45 minutes, with Edison Cavani converting a penalty ahead of the half-time whistle.

The second-half saw Rodgers’ side fair slightly better, with the team finding a little more rhythm and being able to play their game, however, a late own goal by Mikael Lustig and a second from the Uruguay international condemned The Bhoys to their heaviest defeat.

Celtic fans were understandably unhappy with the club’s performance, with many questioning how well they had recruited during the transfer window.

The difference in financial power was an obvious factor in why many felt their team were unable to compete with the Parisians, although, they also felt certain positions still needed further strengthening.

Supporters still believe they are some way from competing with Europe’s elite and the drubbing handed to them by the French powerhouse showed immensely the gap between them.

The Hoops faithful, however, seemed to keep the blame from individual players, but rather voice their concerns at the team as a whole and voiced their opinions on Twitter.
