On loan Celtic winger Daniel Arzani revealed on Tuesday that his season is over, as he is to undergo surgery on his ACL, and fans have been reacting to the news on social media.
The Manchester City youngster is highly regarded both at the Etihad Stadium, Celtic Park and in his native Australia, with many people having already touted him to be the best prospect to come out of the country.
That is high praise indeed, with players such as Mark Viduka and Harry Kewell having originated from down under, but there were plenty of reasons to believe he could justify such hype.
The 19-year-old has already been capped by his country, and even represented them at the World Cup in Russia in the summer, a stage where he showed fleeting glimpses of the talent that he possesses.
Manchester City certainly recognised the potential he has, and they duly took him from fellow City Football Group owned club Melbourne City, only to loan him straight out to Celtic for two years.
Things did not go as expected for Arzani in Glasgow, with him having to wait much longer than anticipated to make his debut under Brendan Rodgers.
He had to wait until the last day of October to make his Celtic bow, in what will be his only Hoops appearance this season, with the news breaking that he is to undergo surgery that will keep him out of the game for a prolonged period of time.
That means he will miss the second half of the Bhoys’ campaign, and he will also be unavailable for the Asia Cup in the early part of 2019, which will be a blow to Arzani.
Celtic fans took to social media when the news broke to wish the winger well, even though they have only seen him in competitive action for 33 minutes to date.
