Glasgow Rangers kicked off the new season with a 4-0 win in their Europa League qualifier with Gibraltar outfit St Josephs on Tuesday evening, and after the match their fans reacted to the performance on social media.

The Gers went into the tie expected to dominate the contest but with this being their first competitive outing of the campaign, it doesn’t always work out that way, so boss Steven Gerrard will have been delighted with what he witnessed.

Rangers had a solid European effort last term, one which ultimately ended a little more prematurely than they would have liked, so there is pressure on them to make the group stage of the competition this year and push on from there.

Gerrard has made a number of additions to his Gers squad over the course of the summer, and he handed debuts to Jordan Jones and Sheyi Ojo from the start, while Joe Aribo came off the bench in the second half.

The first half of the match was a competitive affair, but Rangers ran riot out in Gibraltar in the second period. They took the lead five minutes after the break when Ryan Jack fired them ahead and never looked back from there.

Ojo picked up a debut goal to move the Gers 2-0 ahead in the tie, and they then proceeded to put it to bed, as further strikes from Borna Barisic and Alfredo Morelos made the second leg next week a mere formality.

That will allow Gerrard to get more minutes into his Rangers squad in a competitive environment, which could be crucial to their development this term.

One man the Gers fans will be keen to see again is Ojo. The Liverpool loanee impressed on his debut, not just with his goal but an encouraging all-round display, something the Ibrox faithful noticed when reflecting on the match on social media.
