West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has confirmed that the Premier League club have opted to activate a clause in goalkeeper Adrian’s contract that will keep him at the London outfit for an extra 12 months.
The Spanish stopper was set to become a free agent this summer but the Hammers had the option to automatically extend his Irons tenure by a year if they wanted.
Bilic has told reporters that West Ham want to keep Adrian at the club and that they have decided to renew terms with the veteran goalkeeper.
“Adrian is out of contract but we have an option, and we activated that option,” Sky Sports report the Hammers boss as saying.
“He is our player and we are happy with him.”
However, one man that is out of contract and looks set to leave the Premier League side is Alvaro Arbeloa.
The Spanish right-back was signed on a one-year deal last summer from Real Madrid but has had a torrid campaign for West Ham, playing only four times.
Bilic has confirmed that Arbeloa is likely to be released ahead of next season.
“Arbeloa is a different situation – he came for one season and his contract is out now,” the Croat continued.
“But of course I am going to discuss those things with the players, not with the press.”
Right-back and goalkeeper have been two of West Ham’s problem areas this season, with Bilic expected to strengthen both this summer.
