Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has hinted that youngster Mateusz Bogusz is close to cementing his place in the first team squad.
The 17-year-old is considered as one of the Whites’ best young talents, having showcased his abilities during pre-season.
Bogusz never looked out of place within the first team during the off-season, with the attacking midfielder now close to making a breakthrough at Leeds, as confirmed by head coach Bielsa.
“He has showed his skills,” Bielsa told the Yorkshire Evening Post in his Salford City pre-match press conference.
”Now he’s very close to the team, but he has to develop a lot of things yet. One thing is to have the capabilities to play in the team, it is another to show this.”
Leeds have included Bogusz in their match day squad for both Championship fixtures against Bristol City and Nottingham Forest this season, with the Polish youngster an unused substitute.
It looks like Bielsa is planning on giving him his United debut sooner rather than later though, after the teenager has made a great impression on the head coach in both pre season and during training.
Bogusz may well get his bow on Tuesday evening when Leeds take on Salford City in the EFL Cup, as the Championship outfit are expected to make big changes to their line-up.
Bielsa will be looking to rotate the squad and keep his players fresh for their next league fixture, while also ensuring the club manoeuvre their way past the League 2 outfit into the next round of the competition.
It would be a brilliant opportunity for Bogusz to get a taste of competitive first team football, even if Leeds were to limit the 17-year-old attacking midfielder to a cameo role from the bench.
Whether Bielsa is planning to unleash the talented youngster already is yet to be seen though, however we can definitely expect to see him in action sometime during the current season.
