Leicester City saw their four-game winning run come to an end on Friday night when Newcastle United grabbed all three points in a 1-0 win at the King Power Stadium.
Brendan Rodgers’ side had been putting in a number of solid performances ahead of the meeting, however, the Foxes simply could not get going.
Ayoze Perez struck for the visitors in the first half when he beat Foxes stalwart Wes Morgan in the air and headed past Kasper Schmeichel.
Leicester may have dominated possession of the ball, but they just could not do anything with it as they squandered a number of chances and failed to put together a string of passes.
Things did not improve for the hosts when they went behind as Rafa Benitez’s side shut-up-shop and became even more difficult to break down.
The defeat means Rodgers’ Leicester side remain seventh, however, the teams all around them have games in hand and the opportunity to overtake the King Power outfit in their pursuit to finish as ‘the best of the rest’.
Leicester fans were not happy with the defeat on Twitter and a number of them took to the social networking site to share their frustrations with one particular player.
Foxes attacker Demarai Gray attracted plenty of criticism for his performance, or lack of, as he struggled to really get involved in the game.
The winger decided to attack the central area of the pitch, leaving Leicester without any width with parts of their play and therefore limiting the opportunities they had in trying to whip a ball into the box.
One fan had called the 22-year-old ‘useless’, whilst another had stated that he had felt Gray was a ‘lost cause’ and the Foxes needed to ‘sell’ him.
Here are just some of the Leicester reactions following the end of the game:
Beyond a joke we still play gray 😂 #lcfc

I've already lost patience with Gray, get rid.

Barnes was the only positive one imo didn’t move the ball quick enough to get good opportunities out wide Chilwell a main reason for that he was very poor, as for gray he’s a lost cause sell up and sign 2 wingers

Frustrating game #lcfc. Not sure that Gray is going to feature much next season. The lad just hasn’t got it. Not convinced I would turn down a huge offer for Chilwell or Maguire at the minute either

Gray and Barnes not astute enough to know when to come inside and when to stay wide. We couldn’t exploit wide 2v1s quickly enough and we recognised there was no point crossing to Vardy against their 3 CBs. A good lesson tonight, again showing the need to invest in a plan B #lcfc

Moved ball too slowly in first-half and Morgan beaten by smallest player on the pitch for #NUfC goal.
Ndidi laboured in possession and both Gray and Barnes ineffective. Both wingers too narrow and don’t impact the game enough.
Gray, Mendy, Iheanacho all not good enough. #LCFC

Gray and Barnes have to go, we need Mahrez back and someone like Tadic. Quality is needed in the final third or else we are going to suffer against weaker teams #lcfc

Seemed like we went back in time today. Way too slow and nothing seemed to click. Vardy, Barnes and Gray really poor today. #lcfc

And I tell you what, I’m getting bored of Gray going missing every time things don’t go our way #LCFC
