West Ham United fans took to Twitter to gloat and offer congratulations to Dimitri Payet after the player received his Ballon d’Or nomination this week.

The 29-year-old became only the fourth West Ham player ever to be in contention for the award, following in the footsteps of England World Cup heroes Martin Peters, Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst.

To hold a place alongside such footballing royalty shows just how good the former Marseille man has been in recent times.

The France international has contributed 15 goals and 20 assists this calendar year, playing a key role in helping West Ham to a seventh place finish in the Premier League last season.

That form has also been easily translated onto the international stage, with Payet at the creative helm of a France ship that made it to the final of Euro 2016.

Known for his free-kick wizardry, sparkling ingenuity and an ability to score from almost anywhere, the claret-and-blue faithful are quite rightly very proud of their man.
