Glasgow Rangers demolished a poor Hearts side to keep up the pace with Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership title on Sunday afternoon, and after the match fans on social media congratulated a stalwart for a milestone achievement.
The Gers were under pressure to pick up the three points at Ibrox, having seen their rivals pick up a victory at Ross County earlier in the day, but you wouldn’t have thought that was the case with the ease in which they powered past the Jam Tarts.
Given that they were competing in the Europa League less than 72hrs prior to the contest, it was a fine display and a superb result for Rangers.
As ever the architect of the win was Gers striker Alfredo Morelos, whose opening goal in the 5-0 rout took him to 25 for the season, a phenomenal total considering we are not yet at Christmas.
He is set to break all kinds of Rangers records over the remainder of the campaign, but one man who achieved his own one in the victory was James Tavernier, for whom this was his 100th appearance as captain for the Ibrox outfit.
He was not on the scoresheet for once though, as the other four Gers goals came from Ryan Kent, a Christophe Berra own goal and a late brace from substitute Greg Stewart.
The Rangers captain was assured throughout the match, maintaining the fine form he has shown in the last couple of outings, energising supporters to take to Twitter after the demolition of Hearts, to congratulate him on reaching an iconic milestone.
Tavernier is a key part of the plans under Steven Gerrard, so he is expected to rack up plenty more appearances for the Gers, something which will please those who took the time to celebrate him making it to 100 outings as skipper.
