Crystal Palace mathematically secured their Premier League survival on Sunday afternoon when they beat Arsenal 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium and after the match their fans took to social media to praise one of their stars of the show.

The Eagles headed across London with their safety pretty much under control, but officially they needed one more victory to pass the supposed magical 40pts, which is often said to be required to stay up.

Given that Arsenal had won their last 10 matches at the Emirates, Palace fans may have been forgiven for thinking this would not be the day that win arrived, but their players had completely the opposite idea, as they sought about getting at the home defence.

It didn’t take long for the Eagles to lead, with Christian Benteke heading them in front inside 20 minutes, and although the Gunners levelled after the break, goals from Wilfried Zaha and James McArthur ensured Roy Hodgson’s men would come out on top in the contest, despite a consolation from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang towards the end of the match.

Palace have been very good on their travels this season, firstly winning at Manchester City before pushing Liverpool on their own patch and now beating Arsenal. In each of those matches they have found the back of the net on three occasions.

Key to this victory for the Eagles was Belgium international Benteke. He opened the scoring and it was his header which sent Zaha through on goal for the second. His link up play was sublime, bringing others into play throughout.

This was easily the former Liverpool striker’s best outing in a Palace shirt for some time, as he ended a barren run of some 358 days, and after the match the Selhurst Park faithful took to social media to reflect on his display and what he could offer them in the future.
