Chelsea overcame a sloppy second half to make it into the semi-finals of the Europa League on Thursday evening, and after the match their fans praised a key player on social media.

The Blues looked to have put one foot into the last four when they saw off Slavia Prague 1-0 in the Czech Republic last week, and after a scintillating first half at Stamford Bridge, there should have been no doubt about their progression in the competition.

Chelsea flew out of the traps in the second leg on Thursday, and were soon 3-0 up on the night as a Pedro strike, an own goal and another from Olivier Giroud, the top scorer in the competition this season, had the Londoners flying.

With the Blues being 4-0 up on aggregate at that point, the tie looked won even when Slavia pulled a goal back, and should definitely have been the case almost immediately after, when the home side scored again.

Pedro picked up his second of the evening to see Chelsea head into the break 4-1 up on the night and cruising into the semi-finals. The Czechs didn’t get that script though, and two strikes in the first 10 minutes of the second half made for a very nervy Stamford Bridge for a while.

As it was, the Blues saw out the remainder of the match very comfortably, to set up a last four clash with Eintracht Frankfurt next month, as they look to give themselves two chances of reaching next season’s Champions League, with them still fighting for a top four spot in the Premier League.

After the match, many Chelsea fans responded to a tweet from star of the show Pedro, congratulating him on his performance and singling him out for the attention that his display deserved, on what became a night of two halves in the end.
