Aston Villa have missed out on one of their transfer targets this summer with Villarreal man Alfonso Pedraza seemingly choosing Real Betis over them, according to Estadio Deportivo.
The Villans have not been shy in the market so far as they gear up for a first shot back in the top flight, with seven players already coming through the doors at Villa Park.
Dean Smith knows that if he is to keep his Villa outfit in the Premier League wholesale changes had to be made, and he is well on the way to putting together a squad with the required depth to give them the best chance of surviving.
The likes of Tyrone Mings, Kortney Hause, Wesley, Jota, Anwar El Ghazi and Matt Targett have all joined the Villans this summer, but it left-sided star Pedraza will not be following them through the door of the Birmingham based club.
The 23-year-old has already spent one spell in England, when he was at Leeds United during the 2016-17 season, and although it could have gone worse, his experience there wasn’t necessarily the best, and that might have had an impact in his decision to turn down a move to Villa.
The former Spain under-21 international has struggled to make himself a regular for Villarreal, and prior to the upcoming campaign he had already been sent out on loan on three occasions, including that stint in Yorkshire.
He spent last term with Alaves, where he featured on more than 30 occasions in a successful season for the club, but despite that impressive form there is still no spot for him back at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
Pedraza has now chosen to head off on loan to Real Betis rather than chance his arm in the Premier League, which will leave Smith looking at other targets to fill his latest void.
