Aston Villa will look to take another step towards silverware in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening, when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Villa Park, and boss Dean Smith has confirmed he will be making changes to his side for the clash.
The Villans will be going into the tie off the back of a tough match at Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, and with another to come against Liverpool this weekend, it is quite a balancing act that needs to be performed this week.
Smith has made changes to his Villa side in this competition so far, but not as many as some sides in their situation have done, which suggests he is eyeing up a deep run in the cup, even though survival in the Premier League will be the ultimate aim this term.
In order to make progress to the quarter finals, the Villans will have to beat a team who have spent most of the campaign so far playing cup football in Wolves.
Although he hasn’t made many switches to his side thus far, Smith has confirmed he will make alterations against their midlands rivals, and has named two players who will come into the Villa side.
“I will look to see how the lads have recovered from the Man City game.” The Villans official website quotes him as saying.
“There are players who will need to play against Wolves because it’s a big week playing Man City, Wolves and then Liverpool.
“The lads like Conor who didn’t play at the weekend will play. Keinan will play. So we’ll go with a few changes that’s for sure.”
Villa have won this cup on five previous occasions, but haven’t tasted success in it since 1996, so they will be hoping to go one step closer to an elusive crown on Wednesday evening.
