Aston Villa reportedly want a player Carlo Ancelotti hailed for his ‘quality’ and ‘professionalism’

According to Arena Napoli, Aston Villa are interested in signing Jose Callejon from Napoli in the January transfer window.

It has been reported by the Italian news outlet that Villa sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch has identified Callejon as a transfer target this month.

Stats

Callejon has been on the books of Italian club Napoli since the summer of 2013 when he joined from Spanish and European giants Real Madrid.

The 32-year-old, who can operate as a forward or as a winger, has been superb for Napoli over the years, and has extensive experience in the Champions League.

According to WhoScored, the Spain international has made 15 starts and three substitute appearances in Serie A for Napoli so far this season, scoring one goal and providing five assists in the process.

The attacker has also provided one assist in five Champions League games for Napoli so far this campaign, according to WhoScored.

Praise from Carlo Ancelotti

Ancelotti, who was recently appointed as the Everton manager, worked with Callejon when he was the Napoli boss, and earlier this year, he spoke highly of the 32-year-old.

Marca quoted Ancelotti as saying about Callejon in April 2019: “It’s the result of a chat we had before. Both Napoli and I want him to stay for his quality, professionalism and his commitment to the club.

“Counting on players that have a strong commitment to the shirt is very important for the club. I’m talking about Barcelona, AC Milan, Bayern Munich as well. Players that feel something special when they wear the shirt – Jose is one of those.”
