Aston Villa are thought to be considering on whether to make a loan move for Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu this January, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Dean Smith wants to add new players to his side in the winter transfer window and sees the Wales international as an ideal addition.
Although they have numbers in a strong midfield, the 18-year-old’s versatility makes him an attractive option for the Championship outfit.
Ampadu can play in the centre of defence, which has been an area of concern for the Villans, even before Smith arrived as the new manager.
Aston Villa currently only have James Chester and Axel Tuanzebe as their only recognised centre-backs, forcing the club to take a look in the January transfer market.
Derby County are also thought to be keen on the Welshman, however, a move could be difficult for the Villa Park outfit to pull off as Chelsea have previously rejected an enquiry about his availability.
It is understood that both clubs looked to take him on loan in the summer, but Maurizio Sarri rejected any chance of that happening as he wanted to keep the player at Stamford Bridge.
However, having reached November, Ampadu is yet to feature under the new Chelsea boss and both Championship sides will be hopeful that the teenager will be allowed to leave and gain regular first-team football.
