Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce wants to bring out-of-favour Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson on loan to the Midlands next month, according to The Mirror.

The former Charlton Athletic youth player has fallen down the pecking order in North London and is firmly behind Hector Bellerin in Arsene Wenger’s thoughts.

Even with the Spaniard injured, centre-half Gabriel Paulista has recently been given the nod to play at right-back instead of the Englishman.

Jenkinson put in some industrious performances while on loan at West Ham but eventually the defender also lost his place in the Hammers first team.

Bruce reportedly wants to add quality recruits with Premier League experience in the January transfer window and feels that he can give the Arsenal starlet a chance to rebuild confidence in the Championship.

Jenkinson faces the prospect of sitting on the sidelines for the rest of the campaign should he stay in North London and as such a move to the ambitious Villa outfit could well serve all parties well.
