Reports in the Football Insider are suggesting that Connor Shields of the Scottish League One side Albion Rovers is drawing interest from Aston Villa.

The 20-year-old forward has been in prolific form this season and is one of the league’s top five goalscorers with 11 goals in 17 games for his side.

Albion haven’t won in the last five league games but Shields continues to impress and has been named in a number of SPFL teams of the week.

According to the report in the Football Insider, scouts from the Birmingham club were on the look-out for up and coming talent and had been seen at Albion’s home defeat against Alloa Athletic on Saturday gone.

With Gabriel Agbonlahor at the tail-end of his career and Jonathan Kodjia missing the last two league games with an ankle injury, the Villans lack of options up front have been exposed and manager Steve Bruce will be keen to eradicate any areas of weakness within his side – this could speed up a potential move for the starlet.

However, it isn’t only Villa who are in the hunt for the talismanic striker. Sunderland and Watford are also all said to have been enquiring about the young Scot with the Wearsiders also sending club representatives to watch the forward in action.

Should a bid come for the attacker in January from one of the bigger clubs South of the border, it is unlikely that the league one side will be able to hold onto his services and Shields will be free to further his career elsewhere.
