Aston Villa are interested in signing Swansea City defender Mike van der Hoorn this summer, according to a report published by The Sun.
The 26-year-old has been a Swans first-team regular during the past two seasons and has so far made 30 Championship appearances this term, scoring two goals and recording one assist.
Van der Hoorn’s current Swansea contract is due to expire during the summer, according to Transfermarkt, which could open a window of opportunity for Villa.
Reported Villa target Van der Hoorn also boasts Premier League experience having been a first-team regular for the his current club during the 2017-18 season. He will be a valuable addition for any Championship club and could even fit into some of the clubs in the top-flight.
Villa may after all be able to recruit Van der Hoorn on a free transfer at the end of the season and bringing him in will be a major coup for the club.
The Dutchman joined Swansea from Ajax in 2016 and has established himself as a key player for the club, currently serving as vice-captain.
The physically dominant Van der Hoorn will surely attract interest from a number of clubs given his current contract situation.
If Villa manage to win promotion to the Premier League through the playoffs, their chances of signing the player will be significantly boosted.
