Aston Villa slumped to their second loss in two days with a 3-1 defeat to Fulham on Easter Monday at Craven Cottage, with fans singling out one individual as a weak link.

Tommy Elphick was making his first start for the Midlands side in two months, in a decision made by manager Steve Bruce to shake things up and go with a 3-5-2 formation, with the likes of Henri Lansbury, Conor Hourihane, Leandro Bacuna, Alan Hutton and Albert Adomah missing out.

Things started off badly for the visitors, with the highly-rated Ryan Sessegnon putting Fulham ahead after 17 minutes.

The outlook was even bleaker for Villa when Jonathan Kodjia saw red five minutes later, after kicking out at Ryan Fredericks.

Once the second half started, Jack Grealish gave the Villans some hope after equalising early, however strikes from Sone Aluko and Neeskens Kebano ended any chance of taking something back to Villa Park.

After watching their team being beaten for the second time in three days, supporters took to social media to highlight and criticise Elphick’s contribution to the match.

The 29-year-old was one of three centre-backs named in the starting XI, alongside James Chester and Nathan Baker, however many of the club’s fans saw fit to slate his performance on Twitter.
