Aston Villa defeated Wigan Athletic 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at the DW Stadium in a Championship fixture.

Second-half goals by James Chester and Scott Hogan saw Steve Bruce’s side overcome the challenge of their managerless opponents, helping them move to 12th in the league table.

Wigan, who are currently being led by Graham Barrow after sacking Warren Joyce at the beginning of the week, sit 23rd in the Championship and continue to fight for their lives to stay in the division.

However, it was the Villians fifth win in six games – a run of victories that didn’t seem likely a few months ago, with their form dramatically being improved.

Despite the win, Bruce believed his side could still perform better than they had on the day, but was happy with the win nonetheless.

The performance of Scott Hogan, however, was something many took to social media to talk about, with everybody praising the former Brentford striker’s contribution and hoping to see the player score many more in the colours of the Claret and Blue.
