Aston Villa could be set to spend big to sign midfielder Marvelous Nakamba from Belgian outfit Club Brugge this summer, according to Zimbabwean media outlet The Chronicle.
Villans boss Dean Smith is well aware of the need to improve his squad ahead of their first campaign back in the Premier League, both in terms of depth and quality, and it would seem as though he has identified a man who can fit in with that quest.
An area of priority for the Villa manager is the centre of the park, where he has room for more numbers after releasing veterans Glenn Whelan and Mile Jedinak, but at the same time anyone who comes in to replace them will need to be of better quality.
The Villans have previously had their name attached to a number of midfielders already this summer, but as yet none of the players mentioned have been brought into Villa Park for one reason or another.
If the report is to be believed, it could be that Villa are set to shell out £20 million to sign the energetic Zimbabwean, who will add solidity to the centre of their midfield, giving the likes of Jack Grealish even more freedom to influence matches.
Should the Villans pick up the Club Brugge talent, they will be getting a 25-year-old who has more than 150 senior appearances to his name for Nancy, Vitesse Arnhem and the Belgian outfit, as well as seven caps for his country having made his debut for them in 2015.
The midfielder will spend the next month in Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations, where he will have the platform to showcase his talents, and provide the Villa fans with a first chance to see their potential new signing in competitive action ahead of any arrival in Birmingham.
