Arsenal will travel to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night in their first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea and could be without two key men for the tie.

The Gunners are coming off the back of a shock FA Cup exit to Nottingham Forest on Sunday in a 4-2 defeat and Arsene Wenger will be looking for an immediate reaction from his team.

Things will be more difficult than normal for the Arsenal boss as he will not be able to be on the touchline, as he serves the second of his three-match suspension after the FA fined and banned him after comments he made against the referee.

Wenger has revealed that his squad selection will be limited, stating that his team are down to bare threads.

“We don’t recover anybody, unfortunately,” the Arsenal boss told the club’s official website.

“I believe that on Sunday we paid the price for having many injured players. Some needed to be rested but we also had five or six players injured. That’s a bit detrimental to the rotation as well.”

Wenger also admitted that he could be without Arsenal duo Granit Xhaka and Shkodran Mustafi for the clash at Stamford Bridge, with both having to be assessed ahead of the game.

“[On Xhaka] he has had a test today,” he added.

“We’ll see how he comes through that.

“Mustafi will also have a test today. I don’t know exactly how available they will be. I will know more after training.”

Arsenal will be looking to change their fortunes in West London, having won just once against the Blues at their home in the previous nine meetings, whilst it is the only tournament Wenger has not won in English football.

Given that the Gunners were eliminated from the FA Cup, the club’s supporters will hope that this competition could represent a real opportunity for silverware this season.

Arsenal and Chelsea recently played out a scintillating 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League and the neutrals will be hoping for the same this time around.
