Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez could face a jail sentence after reports emerged that the player is under investigation for tax evasion, according to El Periodico.
The Arsenal star, who spent three years with Barcelona in La Liga, is being accused of attempting to defraud Spain’s Inland Revenue of €983,443 (£888,736) by ‘actively withholding’ image rights.

Alexis, who has been in sparkling form for the Gunners this season, is reported to have failed to include income from the transfer of his image rights in both 2012 and 2013.
Miguel Angel Perez de Gregorio, Spain’s public prosecutor, is now accusing the Chile international of ‘simulating the transfer of those rights’ to an offshore company based in Malta, called Numidia Trading.
The Catalan newspaper claims the striker failed to declare sums of €587,677 in 2012 and €395,766 in 2013.
The situation is not too dissimilar to the cases that saw current Barcelona players Javier Mascherano and Lionel Messi punished for seven-figure sums.
Sanchez has been an integral part of an Arsenal team that is currently on a 15-game unbeaten streak in all competitions and is joint top of the Premier League.
