Arsenal are ready to launch a January bid for out-of-favour Manchester United defender Phil Jones but face competition from Liverpool, according to The Sun.
The England international has suffered from debilitating injuries in recent seasons and has not featured for Jose Mourinho’s men in the Premier League this term.
The summer signing of Eric Bailly has bolstered the central defensive options for the Old Trafford outfit, with the powerful former Villarreal man usually partnered with Daley Blind.

Chris Smalling is also ahead of Jones in Mourinho’s pecking order, with talk that the former Blackburn Rovers enforcer could be offloaded in the new year.
Arsenal have had issues at centre-half recently and signed Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia over the summer to fill the void.
The German’s partnership with Laurent Koscielny looks set to be Arsene Wenger’s first choice, while the Gunners also have Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista on the recovery path after pre-season injuries.
As such, if the North London side made a move for Jones it would come as something of a surprise, but Arsenal have bought Danny Welbeck from their Premier League rivals in the past.
